2022 - Winter and Fall

In the Winter and Fall of 2022, MoonLit was excited to resume limited in-person and virtual programming, which included the launch of (Re)Kindling: A Three Part Creative series with Former Housewife, writing and journaling workshops with various partners, "creativity in motion" yoga and journaling sessions with DC Writers Salon, and the return of the DC Lit Crawl with Barrelhouse.

2020 - Spring and Fall

Thanks to a generous grant through the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities, MoonLit ran a limited, virtual season from March-October with over 20 virtual programs for writers all over the country during the COVID-19 outbreak. These workshops included a collaboration with OutWrite, featuring two free workshops for DC's LGTBQ Book Festival, and a virtual weekend retreat with Ink Press Productions.

2019 - Fall and Spring

In Spring 2019 (March-June) and Fall 2019 (September-December), we were thrilled to offer a combined 58 workshops for over 470 people in Washington, DC, Silver Spring, MD, Baltimore, MD and Old Town Virginia. We are grateful to our venue partners - Loyalty Books, Capitol Hill Books, Solid State Books, The Ivy at Bird in Hand, Greedy Reads, Charm City Books, 202Creates, and Old Town Books for helping the greater DMV "get lit!"

2018 - Summer and Fall

MoonLit's first series of workshops began in May 2018 with "Art in the Park." Inspired by the vibrancy of DC's people and places, Art in the Park consisted of 13 $5 art-based workshops in public parks to inspire creative minds of all backgrounds running Memorial Day through Labor Day 2018. In the Fall of 2018, MoonLit expanded to offer 21 creative workshops in creative spaces across DC and Baltimore - at The Ivy/Bird in Hand, Greedy Reads, Femme Fatale, and Duende District. Classes ranged from bookmaking to play writing to using tarot to inspire your fiction.

Other Programs

DC Lit Crawl

In 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2022 MoonLit teamed up with Barrelhouse to bring contemporary and engaging literary voices into DC neighborhoods, showcasing and celebrating local literary artistry. Our 2016 crawl took place in Petworth, 2018 in Columbia Heights, 2019 in Eastern Market and 2022 in Mt. Pleasant.

Check out this DCTrending Article on our 2019 Lit Crawl by Lauren Woods.

Creative Retreats

MoonLit has offered three creative retreats, in November 2017, October 2020, and October 2022. If you would like information on an upcoming retreat, contact Kris at MoonLit.kris@gmail.com.

Author Tributes

MoonLit has co-hosted two author tributes with Loyalty Bookstore in Washington, DC - one for Mary Oliver in January 2019 and one for Toni Morrison in August 2019. These events allowed the arts community to come together to honor and celebrate of these two amazing voices.

Monthly Write-Ins

From January 2018 - December 2018, MoonLit hosted a monthly write-in for ten female-identifying writers in the DC area.  Each write-in was designed to be a "dedicated time and space to sit in the company of other creatives and just have a second to write." We revived the series in January 2020 in partnership with Femme Fatale.
